Background
At Historcial Samuel Butler's Hut
In 2005 after 25 years of bringing up three wonderful children and running their own business Graeme and Robyn decided to take a well earned break. Having sold their house in New Zealand, Graeme and Robyn set off on a two or three year adventure. They have purchased a mobile home and are travelling about in North America, including Canada and Mexico.
Europe, India, South America and other destinations will be included as part of their ‘around the world’ ticketing and will be travelled pack packer style.
Off To North America
Why America?
As a couple from the other side of the world, America seemed like a likely place to travel because; it’s vast, it’s easy to get about, it has the same language and has a similar culture to our home country of New Zealand.
Activities & Interests
Travelling in America also has the benefit of offering us similar outdoor activities that we love doing so much; trekking, mountain biking, fly fishing to name just a few. Then there is the music, literature and entertinment which, like or or lump it, has influenced our lives over the past decades.
Mobile Home
Then there is the concept of mobile homes which the American’s do so well. We can live in relative comfort with all the conveniences of a modern home that has the advantage of also being our transport. So we can sightsee, visit friends and change our landscape from coastal to lake side to mountains, without having to leave home – because our vehicle is our home.
Internet Communication
Add to this the ease of communicating via the internet and electronic banking and we think to all adds up to being a good form of long term holiday made very easy.
Of course, if we want it to be harder we can always fly off to Chile or Tibet or somewhere for a while, which we intend doing from time to time.
Air Travel
With air fares being as low as they are the concept of popping over to Europe to go skiing or making a flying visit back home “down under” to NZ, Aussie or any of the beautiful Pacific Islands is achievable.
Side Trips
By planning a year in advance, it’s easier and cheaper to visit other countries as part of a ’round the world’ ticket. Many exotic and otherwise difficult to get to destinations can be included on the list.
