It’s A Boy
We take great delight in announcing that our daughter Niki delivered a healthy boy on 25 August ’08.
Weighing in at 3,487 grams (7 lb 11 oz) he is called Laith Isaac Ismail. Niki delivered him by caesarian section after an 18 hour labour and recovered well after her ordeal. Jazz was great support throughout and cut the umbilical cord in theatre.

Proud new mother Niki cradles son Laith soon after getting home.

Niki & Jazz have had Laith at home for two weeks now and he has settled in well proving to be a placid son who is putting on weight nicely. Grandparents on both sides are all doing fine and enjoying this precious addition to our families.

Wedding Day

Our daughter Niki was married in Christchurch to Aiyaz (Jazz) in a colourful ceremony on 4th November 2006.

Niki got married in a beautiful Indian made gown with a striking ensemble of gold jewellry that, as is the Muslim custom, was a gift from Aiyaz’s parents Mohammed and Nisha.

In preparation for her marriage to Aiyaz (his nickname is Jazz), Niki has embraced her husband’s religion and taken on the Islamic name of Aiysha.

Niki, who is happy to retain her Christian name, had a ladies night where her hands and feet were painted with the intricate traditional patterns of the East. The deep red dye used for this is made from the crushed leaves of the Henna plant.
Those are the wedding rings the couple gave to one another.

The main wedding party consisted of the immediate family on both sides. True to form, Canterbury turned on a sparkling day that showed off the finery of the outfits worn by all.

With over 300 guests, the wedding ceremony was a riot of colour, festivities and a delightful blend of Eastern and Western wedding ceremony and traditions.

The wedding service was held as dual ceremonies based in the Muslim and Christian faith models. Guests from both sides were delighted to experience and participate in the enchantment of each others versions.
In the end both models focus on the principal of a marriage based on mutual love and respect of the couple involved before an approving audience and in the presence of their God.
And as parents from any race, religion or creed would say, all we want for our children is their health and happiness with their chosen loved ones.

The happy couple, Mr & Mrs Ismail, on their special day.

They’re Engaged

Our daughter Niki and Aiyaz (Jazz) are engaged to be married.
Jazz proposed to Niki during a snow landing near Mt Aspiring – how romantic is that!! We are both so very happy for them and their future together. The marriage should be some time late next year so there’s lots to look forward to.
