A quick update to tell all our friends around the world that we and all our family and friends living in and around Christchurch are all OK. Shaken, not stirred, but with a big mess to clean up.
We think it’s a credit to our building codes and our understanding of the dangers inherit with living on the Ring of Fire that we can come through such a natural calamity as this almost unscathed.
Kiwi’s are a chipper lot!!!
There have been more than 500 after shocks and, over a week later, these are still going on.
To see a time-lapse of the first earthquake and the ongoing aftershocks click on the link below.
The radius of the circle shows the magnitude and the colour shows the depth of the source, with shallower shocks being more destructive than deeper ones. If you play the time lapse in fast forward it looks like a firewords display!!

Our grandson Laith has had an important family ceremony. Just as a Christening is to the Christians, an Aqueeqha is to the Islam faith that the Ismail family follows.
The meaning of Aqueeqah
The Aqueeqah is made up of two essential components:
Shaving of the baby’s hair
Sacrifice of two animals
Once this is done, the Aqueeqah is completed, and:
“All impurities of the child are removed and the child is saved from all calamities by Allah.”
Laith had his hair shaved at fifteen weeks. His hair was then weighed and the equivalent of Silver was given to the poor when Mohammed and Nisha visited Fiji.
Mohammed and Nisha have arranged for the slaughter of two lambs to be carried out by a Muslim person while reciting a prayer of protection for Laith.
The meat from the lambs is then shared with family and friends to celebrate Laith’s arrival. The evening is a joyous occasion that will include a meal and some prayers.

We have just attended the wedding of very close family friend Laura-Jean to Peter. And what a beautiful wedding it was; a gorgeous bride, a handsome groom and surrounded by family and close friends. Held in perfect weather on the banks of the Avon River in the historical section of Christchurch it was a wedding to remember.

It’s the first time since our daughter’s wedding that all the Kennerley family has been together in Christchurch.

Today Jamie fulfills a dream to take his first flight at the controls of a helicopter. On a clear blue spring day in Wanaka NZ, Jamie had his introductory flight and one that we all hope paves the way for him to become a pilot.
This first experience at the controls saw him hovering, flying straight and level at altitude and then doing a low level run up the Clutha River.
